On September 17, 2007, ORASCOM has placed a major order with the BMA, MAGUIN and EBERHARDT consortium of enterprises for the construction of a new beet root sugar extraction plant and refinery in Nobaria. This new facility, Nile Sugar Company, will be producing 8,000 metric tons (expandable to 16,000 tons) per day; the refinery has the capacity to process 1,200 metric tons (expandable to 2,400 tons) of raw sugar per day.
